Blenheim Military Models B56 Casualty Set 1879 Zulu War Series. Surgeon Reynolds at Rorkes Drift attending a casualty, two 24th foot running with a further casualty on a stretcher. This action is the most well known of the whole war when 81 members of B. Coy, 2nd Bn 24th Foot held out against 4500 Zulus. The lookouts cry is still remembered today "Her they come, black as hell and thick as grass." Blenheim Traditional Military Models where produced in Wales and hand painted by Derek J. Knight. Known for their outstanding attention to detail and high quality. Founders of Blenheim Military Miniatures, Frank and Jan Scroby, first became interested in the charm of old toy soldiers in 1970, while out shopping for antiques in London's Portobello Road. Finding, or perhaps stumbling on to, five battered toy soldiers which, despite the ravages of nursery wars, captured the hearts of the Scroby's and hooked them for life. With prices rapidly rising adding to their collection was a problem and realized there could well be a market for producing toy soldiers. In 1973, early experiments looked much like jelly babies, not deterred they preserved and adapted modern materials for moulding and tin alloy for casting. Late in 1973 they issued the first Blenheim toy soldier. The reaction from collectors was immediate and so favorable that in February of 1974 they began producing toy soldiers full time. Working in their London flat it soon became apparent that it was too small to hold the army of toy soldiers being produced. Having an affection for Wales, they elected to move in January of 1975 to the tiny village of Pantygog in South Wales. It was here that what once was a hobby became a thriving cottage industry. Now battalions of British troops, authentic in detail and all meticulously hand painted, passed through their studio to all corners of the world. The castings are assembled, primed, hand painted and packed in sets of six foot figures or three mounted soldiers, in hand covered gold lined boxes. Trains and Toy Soldiers has a large collection of Blenheim figures and toy soldiers for the discerning collector. Feel free to contact us via email or call 800-786-1888 if you have any questions.
