Soldiers of the World Set IA40 Indian Army Light Infantry.  This set includes six Indian Army Light infantry units with rifles at the slope.  Soldiers of the World offers a wide range of high quality, collectible toy soldiers master-crafted in New Zealand.  This particular set features some figures from the British Indian Army.  The British Indian Army was created in 1776 in Kolkata (Calcutta) and was to be under the control of the East India Company. After the Charter act of 1833 the British Indian Army was divided into four smaller sects called commands, namely  Punjab, Bengal, Madras, and Bombay, named after the regions commanding presidencies within India.  Trains and Toy Soldiers offers collectibles from each of these commands.  In 1895 these four commands were unified into a single Indian Army.  The British Indian Army was instrumental in the continual security of the British Empire within India as well as across the rest of the world.  The robust Indian population provided many soldiers and resources for the British Empire.  At its peak the army numbered over 2 million.  The Army fought in several theatres during its tenure including the Anglo-Burmese Wars, the Anglo-Sikh Wars, the Anglo-Afghan Wars, the first and second Opium wars, and the Boxer Rebellion.  Additionally, over 1.3 million Indian soldiers served in World War I on the side of the Allies.  Soldiers of the World Set IA40 is a versatile set that could be used to depict several infantry units within the British Indian Army during several different time periods.
