Marx was founded by Louis Marx and his brother David in New York City in 1919. The companies mission statement was to "give the customer more toy for less money," with emphasis on "quality is not negotiable". These values made Marx highly successful. 

Marx manufactured a wide range of toys throughout its history. Here at Trains And Toy Soldiers our focus is on O Gauge Trains and accessories along with toy soldiers. The six qualities that Marx believed were needed for a successful toy include: familiarity, skill, play value, surprise, sturdiness and comprehensibility. By 1950 Marx had become the world's largest toy manufacturer, Time Magazine had proclaimed Louis Marx the "Toy King" in 1955.

Marx produced its first newly designed train set in 1934, it was called the streamlined Union Pacific M-10000.  The M-10000 included 0-4-0 steam locomotive and tender with a gondola, single dome car and caboose, all made of tin. The boxed set also included tubular track and a transformer, by today's verbiage it would fall into the Ready to Run category. Since 1934 Marx has produced numerous train sets, steam locomotive sets, diesel sets and a variety of cars from tank cars, boxcars, gondolas and cabooses. According to Mr. Greenberg the Louis Marx Company is considered "the most important producer of inexpensive American toy trains."
