In 1891, Märklin released its first wind-up train with carriages that ran on standardized track. Marklin’s first products were sold to doll house collectors. Model electric train production required the same skilled craftmanship and attention to detail. Soon Märklin would become a world leader in this new field. Around the globe, collectors and model railroaders value Märklin’s commit to the highest standards in all their products. Some railroaders will buy nothing else.
Märklin not only set the standard in quality and durability, the track sizes they developed become the world standard. The first gauge was numbered 1 through 5 and was first shown to the public at the Leipzig Toy Fair in the late 19th century. Märklin would again set the standard in the field when they released O gauge trains for the first time at the beginning of the 20th century. HO scale was first produced in 1935 as a less expensive alternative to O gauge during the Great Depression. In the 1970’s, Märklin continued to innovate when they released the Z scale train. Throughout the years, Märklin has lead the model railroading world with exciting new types of electric model trains.
