Operating and collecting toy trains is a fun and relaxing, not to mention satisfying, hobby enjoyed by young and old alike. Young children enjoy and are amazed by the Christmas train that runs around under the tree. Long hours are spent waiting and listening for the train whistle. Hearing the noisy clanging of the steel wheels running on the metal track. Waiting for Dad, Mom, Grandpa to play a Christmas melody as the train goes round and round.
The fascination of model toy trains has never disappeared from children's and adult's life. We are all excited to see that long freight train approaching as the red lights flash at the railroad crossing. How many times have you found yourself asking "...how long is this train?". Or perhaps you started counting the coal cars as it passed by only to stop counting after 75, 80 or 100 plus. Finally the lights stop flashing, the train has passed and you continue on your journey...but you are still thinking about the TRAIN.
Toy trains range in size from the 4' oval to the 26' x 18' layout with multiple locomotives pulling numerous freight cars, traveling through periods of time, landscaped with buildings of yesterday, people milling around in front of the barber shop and automobiles from the era you are modeling. The joy and excitement of model toy railroading is always present. There's no denying that video games occupy a large amount children's time, however the sounds of a toy train running still lives in them.
