World War II
Friday, September 1, 1939 at 4:45 AM, the Second World War began. The German military by orders of a former corporal and now Führer of the Third Reich, Adolf Hitler, invaded Poland. From Stalingrad to Africa, the world would come to fear and eventually conquer the first integrated modern army. On the other side of the globe, Japan had been at war with China for several years. In alliance with Germany and Italy, Japan would be the third member of the infamous Axis powers. The blitzkrieg, lightning war in German, would smash all opposition in Poland and Western Europe. By June 1940, only Great Britain remained to oppose the Nazis in Europe. The Royal Air Force (RAF) and Luftwaffe, the German Air Force, fought to control the skies over Britain for over a year. As the Battle for Britain ended, The Germans prepared to betray the Russians. Even though Adolf Hitler had conspired with Stalin to conquer and divide Poland, he launched a surprise attack against the Soviets in 1941. Again the blitzkrieg seemed unstoppable, until the combination of Russian winter and Stalingrad stopped the German advance. On the other side of the world, Japan executed a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. Quickly followed by the conquering of the Philippines, the Japanese seemed ready to dominate the Pacific. The United States turned the tide at Midway. This stunning naval victory combined with the unsurpassed production capability of America allowed the allies to go on the offensive. First in Africa and later in Normandy, the Americans and British drove back the Germans. At the same time, the Russians were slowly but relentlessly marching towards the homeland. In the Pacific theater, the allies were also slowly closing in on Japan. By May 1945, the Nazis had been vanquished and Japan surrendered later that year in August. The figurines and models of King and Country allow you to recreate the moments which determined the fate of the world.
